Design ideas

We’ll use this page to illustrate some of the ideas we have for decorating and finishing the extension, and add more rooms and ideas as we go along. Let us know what you think, especially where we are undecided.

The lounge

So starting at the back, we’re looking at full width bifold doors across the lounge, to maximise the view down the garden. And we’re going to maximise the light there, with an amazing roof lantern. They’ll look something like these:

And as we love the open fire in our current lounge, we are looking at a multi-fuel burner in the new room. One of these first two probably with a surround like the third image:

We haven’t quite decided on the flooring yet – a big decision as its going to run through almost the entirety of the downstairs. We’re going with wood, but can’t make our minds up as to the precise shade.

Flooring

Downstairs loo

While the new house isn’t going to be ultra-modern, it will be an update from the current cottage. But we didn’t want to lose that early 20th century look altogether so the very front of the house will retain some of that original feel. The current lounge will become a proper study – ideas on that to come, when we have some! But we wanted to try and recreate the terracotta style floor of the existing kitchen in the downstairs loo. Not sure exactly what design yet, but there are loads out there.

New master bathroom

While the layout of the new master bathroom has been designed by Charlotte, our designer not-in-residence, we are still undecided about the colours. One possibility is:

though, maybe with the darker floor of the second image.

Kitchen

I’m still looking at the best way to get the kitchen design up here – but in the mean time, we have taken delivery of our sink and tap…

Study

I have lots of ideas for the new study – it will be the room in the house that most reflects its original character and there are loads of bits and pieces I have seen that will make it look awesome (even if I have been forbidden from having the £9500 desk I saw… I know! I know! But it was beautiful!) But Maddie has bought me the first piece for the study – and it is fabulous.
